BY REPRESENTATIVE LEGER
COASTAL RES/WETLANDS:  Recognizes April 14, 2015, as Coastal Day at the Louisiana
Legislature
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To recognize April 14, 2015, as Coastal Day at the Louisiana Legislature.
3 WHEREAS, Louisiana's coast and its communities, businesses, and natural resources
4are of the utmost importance to the welfare of the state; and
5 WHEREAS, the health and sustainability of our coastal area is under constant threat
6from regular tidal action, storm surge, saltwater intrusion, sea level rise, subsidence, and
7other natural and manmade influences; and
8 WHEREAS, Louisiana's coast can be sustained through the establishment of an
9integrated system of protection and restoration; and
10 WHEREAS, over the past several years, the state has enjoyed great success in
11reducing land loss rates and improving hurricane protection along the coast through the
12coordinated efforts of integrated coastal protection; and
13 WHEREAS, there will be crucial items to address in the coming year related to
14sustaining the coast, including implementing the state's Coastal Master Plan through
15designing and constructing hundreds of millions of dollars in restoration and protection
16projects and continuing ecosystem restoration related to the Deepwater Horizon disaster; and
17 WHEREAS, the creation of this system to sustain and restore our state's coastal areas
18in the coming years will require continued robust funding and efficient program
19administration from federal, state, and local governments; and
20 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to set aside a special day each year to recognize the
21value of Louisiana's coast, highlight the challenges faced by the coastal communities, and

1support the work needed to sustain the coast, an area of the state vital to the economic and
2social health of the entire state.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
4recognize April 14, 2015, as Coastal Day at the Louisiana Legislature.
