HLS 15RS-4226 ORIGINAL 2015 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 220 BY REPRESENTATIVE CROMER INSURERS/TAXES: Urges a study of the insurance premium tax and retaliatory tax issues affecting insurance companies doing business in the state of Louisiana 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2To urge and request the House Committee on Insurance and the Senate Committee on 3 Insurance, in consultation with the Department of Insurance and insurance industry 4 representatives, to study the insurance premium tax and retaliatory tax issues 5 affecting insurance companies doing business in the state of Louisiana. 6 WHEREAS, the state of Louisiana has one of the highest premium tax rates for 7insurance companies in the country; and 8 WHEREAS, the insurance companies doing business in our state are subject to 9retaliatory taxes as a result of the premium tax structure in the Louisiana Insurance Code; 10and 11 WHEREAS, it is important that the regulatory and statutory framework for premium 12taxes and retaliatory taxes be reviewed to determine if it is fair and equitable. 13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 14urge and request the House Committee on Insurance and the Senate Committee on 15Insurance, in consultation with the Department of Insurance and insurance industry 16representatives, to study the regulatory and statutory framework for premium taxes and 17retaliatory taxes to determine if such framework is fair and equitable to the insurance 18industry and to the state of Louisiana. 19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that such a study include a review of the laws of 20other states and address whether the enactment of legislation by the Legislature of Louisiana 21should be considered.
