HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 35

U.S.:  Requests that the U.S. Postal Service consider assigning a new zip code to the town
of Richwood in Ouachita Parish
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To urge and request the United States Postal Service to consider assigning a new zip code
3 to the town of Richwood in Ouachita Parish.
4 WHEREAS, the town of Richwood in Ouachita Parish shares a zip code with one
5used throughout the metropolitan Monroe area; and
6 WHEREAS, when zip code boundaries are not aligned with municipal boundaries,
7there is potential for citizens to face higher home and automobile insurance rates, for
8confusion with respect to voter registration, and for misdirected property and sales tax
9revenues, among other problems; and
10 WHEREAS, the assignment of a new zip code for use in the town of Richwood
11might reduce the potential for such problems; and
12 WHEREAS, additionally, having a unique zip code might grant the citizens of the
13town of Richwood a stronger sense of independence and identity.
14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
15urge and request the United States Postal Service to consider assigning a new zip code to the
16town of Richwood in Ouachita Parish.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
18United States Postmaster General and to the mayor of Richwood.
