GERMAIN, STOKES, TALBOT, THIBAUT, THIERRY, WHITNEY, ALFRED WILLIAMS, PATRICK WILLIAMS, WILLMOTT, AND WOODRUFF AND SENATOR WALSWORTH A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To express the condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Colonel Gene C. Hazel of Shreveport. WHEREAS, with the death of Colonel Gene C. Hazel on Thursday, March 26, 2015, Louisiana has lost one of her finest sons; and WHEREAS, Gene C. Hazel was born on February 25, 1930; he had a passion for football and played football for the Red Wolves, formerly known as the Indians; he graduated from Arkansas State University and his enthusiasm for sports continued after he completed his formal education; and WHEREAS, Gene C. Hazel had an exemplary military career; he honorably served his country for thirty-three years in the Army National Guard; and WHEREAS, he fought in the Korean War and earned numerous medals and commendations for his service to his country and retired from the Army National Guard with the rank of Colonel; and WHEREAS, Colonel Gene C. Hazel was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and playing golf; he served as a former president of the Louisiana Wild Turkey Federation, and he was a faithful Christian man who loved his family and his church; and Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 46 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Colonel Gene C. Hazel is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Mary Roberts Hazel; his sons, George Stephen Hazel, Gene Jeffrey Hazel, Robert Mark Hazel and his wife Fran, and the Honorable Lowell Christopher Hazel and his wife Karen; his daughter, Charlotte Louise Hazel Jenkins and her husband Charles; his stepchildren, Stephen Howard Rugg and his wife Pat, and Susan Rugg Austin and her husband David; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, although the death of Colonel Gene C. Hazel has left a tremendous void in the state, his legacy shall forever remain in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved this extraordinary man. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Colonel Gene C. Hazel of Shreveport and does hereby recognize that his death has created a great sense of sorrow in the citizens whose lives he touched, all of whom mourn the loss of this brave and faithful man who served Louisiana and the United States of America.
