HLS 15RS-1006 ORIGINAL 2015 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 50 BY REPRESENTATIVES WESLEY BISHOP AND MILLER COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Bishop Perry Center of the Archdiocese of New Orleans 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2To commend the Bishop Perry Center of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. 3 WHEREAS, the Bishop Perry Center was named in honor of Bishop Harold Perry, 4the first black Catholic bishop of the United States, and was founded in January of 2013; and 5 WHEREAS, Bishop Perry sought to advance respect for the dignity of each person, 6and he accomplished this by his quiet strength of words and presence; he raised the 7consciousness and conscience of the church and society on behalf of individuals who are 8voiceless; and 9 WHEREAS, the Bishop Perry Center continues the legacy of Bishop Perry by 10serving individuals in need throughout the greater metropolitan area of New Orleans; and 11 WHEREAS, the Bishop Perry Center seeks to provide person-to-person ministry in 12a welcoming setting that nourishes the heart, mind, and body through services such as 13religious instruction, spiritual counseling, education, and recreation; and 14 WHEREAS, the Bishop Perry Center accomplishes its mission and ministry through 15the generous support and sponsorship of numerous caring individuals and community 16partners, public and private; and 17 WHEREAS, the Bishop Perry Center merits a special measure of commendation for 18the pride and honor it brings to the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana. 19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 20commend the Bishop Perry Center and does hereby express enduring appreciation for the 21services it provides to the citizens of Louisiana.
