HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 50

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend the Bishop Perry Center of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
WHEREAS, the Bishop Perry Center was named in honor of Bishop Harold Perry,
the first black Catholic bishop of the United States, and was founded in January of 2013; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Perry sought to advance respect for the dignity of each person,
and he accomplished this by his quiet strength of words and presence; he raised the
consciousness and conscience of the church and society on behalf of individuals who are
voiceless; and
WHEREAS, the Bishop Perry Center continues the legacy of Bishop Perry by
serving individuals in need throughout the greater metropolitan area of New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, the Bishop Perry Center seeks to provide person-to-person ministry in
a welcoming setting that nourishes the heart, mind, and body through services such as
religious instruction, spiritual counseling, education, and recreation; and
WHEREAS, the Bishop Perry Center accomplishes its mission and ministry through
the generous support and sponsorship of numerous caring individuals and community
partners, public and private; and
WHEREAS, the Bishop Perry Center merits a special measure of commendation for
the pride and honor it brings to the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the Bishop Perry Center and does hereby express enduring appreciation for the
services it provides to the citizens of Louisiana.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Rae Jean Carroll of the Bishop Perry Center.
