ENROLLED 2015 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 52 BY REPRESENTATIVES MORENO, ADAMS, BILLIOT, CONNICK, GISCLAIR, HENRY, LEOPOLD, LOPINTO, LORUSSO, STOKES, TALBOT, THIBAUT, WILLMOTT, AND WOODRUFF A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To express the condolences of the members of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of R. Keith Gee of Metairie. WHEREAS, the members of the legislature were saddened to learn of the passing of R. Keith Gee, Esquire, a lifelong Metairie resident, on April 4, 2015, at the age of fifty-six; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gee graduated from Jesuit High School in 1976 and enrolled at Tulane University; he graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering in 1980; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gee pursued a law degree at Tulane University School of Law; he graduated in 1983, and after graduation, Mr. Gee accepted a position at Texaco in the legal department; and WHEREAS, following a distinguished career at Texaco, Mr. Gee served as assistant to a Jefferson Parish councilman before assuming the mantle of executive director at the Horsemen's Benevolent & Protection Association; throughout his working career, Mr. Gee cared for his mother; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gee was one of Louisiana's biggest advocates for horse racing and its many workers; horse racing always held a place near and dear to his heart, and he worked tirelessly to improve conditions at the Fair Grounds; as a result of his extraordinary efforts, more than one million dollars was invested in improvements to the Fair Grounds; and WHEREAS, a lifelong season ticket holder for the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans, Mr. Gee's love of sports led him to coach and mentor generations of young athletes through the Jefferson Parish Recreation Department; he enjoyed playing basketball; Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 52 ENROLLED he rarely missed major sporting events and attended World Series games, NCAA Final Four games, the Kentucky Derby, and Super Bowls; he cherished the Saints' 2009 Super Bowl win; and WHEREAS, the sphere of influence of R. Keith Gee continues in the designation of the Jesuit High School math department as the Keith Gee '76 Mathematics Department in his honor; and WHEREAS, fond recollections of happy times will forever remain in the hearts and minds of those who loved R. Keith Gee: his mother, Lillie Hom Gee; sister, Cynthia "Cindy" G. Yee, D.D.S. (Darryl); nephew and godson, Tommy Yee; and family and friends; and WHEREAS, life may be measured by moments in time, and R. Keith Gee spent his moments on Earth fully and to the best of his ability; he said he had checked off his bucket list many times over, with no regrets; his passion for life left memories that will live on through those who loved him most. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend sincere condolences to the family of R. Keith Gee; does hereby express heartfelt sympathies to those who mourn his loss; and does hereby offer prayers for comfort and solace to all who will miss his presence.
