CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences upon the death of Staff Sergeant Thomas Florich
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To express the condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Staff Sergeant
3 Thomas Florich, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on March 10, 2015.
4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Legislature of
5Louisiana has learned of the death of Staff Sergeant Thomas Florich, who was killed in
6dutiful service to his country when his UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed during a
7nighttime exercise in Florida; and
8 WHEREAS, Thomas Florich attended high school in DeRidder and after graduation,
9he attended LSU; and
10 WHEREAS, he found joy in his favorite sports teams, the New Orleans Saints, the
11Green Bay Packers, and LSU; his passion for life was contagious and his personality
12inspired everyone he met; and
13 WHEREAS, heeding the call of his country, Thomas Florich began a career with the
14Louisiana Army National Guard in 2007 as a Black Hawk repairer; he was mobilized for
15service in response to the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and in response to
16Hurricane Isaac; and
17 WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Florich's passion for his country and community will
18forever remain in the hearts and minds of his loving wife, Meghan Florich; his father and
19stepmother; and his military family; and

1 WHEREAS, the sacrifices made by the great men and women who protect and
2defend the United States and its citizens must always be acknowledged by those who are left
3behind to honor their memory; and
4 WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the Legislature of Louisiana records for
5posterity the extraordinary dedication and commitment to his country that Staff Sergeant
6Thomas Florich displayed throughout his life and in the performance of his military service.
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
8express its condolences and most heartfelt sorrow to the family of Staff Sergeant Thomas
9Florich and does hereby acknowledge and record for posterity the unique and special
10contributions of Staff Sergeant Florich to the city of Baton Rouge, to the state of Louisiana,
11and to the United States of America.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
13to the family of Staff Sergeant Thomas Florich.
