CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences upon the death of Diane A. Piret
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To express the condolences of the members of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death
3 of Diane A. Piret.
4 WHEREAS, the members of the legislature were saddened to learn of the passing of
5Diane A. Piret on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, after a courageous battle with colon cancer;
6and
7 WHEREAS, born in Staten Island on May 29, 1947, Ms. Piret graduated from Hunter
8College with a degree in business; from the mid-1970s through the mid-1980s, she worked
9at Manfra, Tordella, and Brookes and began to learn the rare-coin and precious-metals
10business; and
11 WHEREAS, she managed Manfra, Tordella, and Brookes's retail store at One World
12Trade Center for several years, including during the historic metals markets of 1979 and
131980; and
14 WHEREAS, her passion for the coin industry was noticed by all, and in the mid-
151980s, Ms. Piret was recruited to manage a precious-metals business in southeast Louisiana;
16and 
17 WHEREAS, in the fall of 1989, Ms. Piret became the membership director for the
18Industry Council for Tangible Assets; upon her retirement in 2015, she was acknowledged
19as being the industry expert on cash reporting, broker reporting, and the USA PATRIOT
20Act; and

1 WHEREAS, at the time of her death, Diane A. Piret served as the industry affairs
2director for the Industry Council for Tangible Assets; and
3 WHEREAS, Ms. Piret was a colleague, leader, and friend to all in the rare-coin and
4precious-metals industry; and
5 WHEREAS, she was well known and well respected for her ability to develop
6workable and fair solutions; she was instrumental in the passage of sales tax exemptions for
7coin dealers and the removal of the one thousand dollar threshold in the state of Louisiana;
8and
9 WHEREAS, Diane A. Piret will forever be remembered for her energy and passion
10for life and the coin industry; she received numerous awards throughout her career, which
11included the Professional Numismatists Guild's 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award, the
12American Numismatic Association's 2014 Elvira Clain-Stefanelli Memorial Award for
13Achievement in Numismatics, and the National Silver Dollar Round Table's 2014 Lifetime
14Achievement Award; and
15 WHEREAS, as a devoted member of Christ Church Cathedral, Ms. Piret was
16responsible for building its annual rummage sale into a major fundraiser; and
17 WHEREAS, the passing of Diane A. Piret leaves a huge void in her community and
18in the rare-coin and precious-metals industry; her memory shall forever remain in the minds
19and hearts of all who knew and loved this exceptional woman.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
21express sincere condolences to the family of Diane A. Piret; does hereby record for posterity
22her outstanding accomplishments and singular contributions; and does hereby extend
23enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that this wonderful woman will
24forever bring her family, friends, community, the state of Louisiana, and the rare-coin and
25precious-metals industry.
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
27to the family of Diane A. Piret.
