ENROLLED 2015 Regular Session HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 91 BY REPRESENTATIVE LEGER A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION To designate Wednesday, May 6, 2015, as Kingsley House Day at the legislature. WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Kingsley House and to designate Wednesday, May 6, 2015, as Kingsley House Day; and WHEREAS, Kingsley House, founded in 1896, serves individuals of all ages and offers services throughout southeast Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the mission of Kingsley House is to "educate children, strengthen families, and build communities"; and WHEREAS, Kingsley House launched the very first kindergarten and summer school programs in the state and has promoted education in the form of the Head Start and Early Head Start preschool programs; and WHEREAS, a youth services program and an after-school program provide activities for children between the ages of five and seventeen; these programs promote psychosocial skills, creative arts, success, and respect for others while offering tutoring, mentoring, and drug abuse and violence prevention activities; and WHEREAS, Kingsley House Community Counseling Center Services offers various programs geared towards mental health counseling and therapy, reintegration into the community, and the Adult Services Program provides assistance to senior citizens and medically fragile adults; and WHEREAS, the Magic Johnson Foundation Community Empowerment Center, the only facility of its kind in the state of Louisiana, provides the community with free access to the technology and services that the center has to offer, thereby providing access to internet research, word processing, and other capacity-building activities; and Page 1 of 2 HCR NO. 91 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Kingsley House merits special recognition for providing community services for over one hundred nineteen years and for making a significant impact on the lives of the thousands of children and families that it serves annually. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Wednesday, May 6, 2015, as Kingsley House Day at the legislature. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Keith Liederman, Ph.D., chief executive officer of Kingsley House.
