COMMENDATIONS: Commends Edmonia Tatman Bernard upon the celebration of her
100
th
birthday
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Edmonia Tatman Bernard upon the celebration of her one hundredth birthday.
3 WHEREAS, Edmonia Tatman was born in Whiteville, Louisiana, on May 15, 1915,
4and has been a long time resident of the community; and
5 WHEREAS, she became the wife of Alvin Bernard, Sr., and this marriage was
6blessed with seven children, twenty-four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, twenty
7great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren; and
8 WHEREAS, in addition to being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,
9and great-great-grandmother, Mrs. Bernard has been active in her church and community;
10and
11 WHEREAS, during her long and productive lifetime, Edmonia Tatman Bernard has
12demonstrated in countless ways her dedication to the welfare of others and has earned the
13respect and affection of people from all walks of life and ages; and
14 WHEREAS, she has lived during the most eventful century of the world's history to
15date and, in her quiet way, has been a force for good and a stabilizing influence on those
16around her during these turbulent years; it is appropriate to herald the longevity of this
17beloved centenarian.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
19Legislature of Louisiana does hereby congratulate Edmonia Tatman Bernard upon reaching
20the rarified milestone of one hundred years of life and does hereby offer best wishes for
21many more happy, productive years.
