HLS 15RS-3943 ORIGINAL 2015 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 130 BY REPRESENTATIVE JAMES SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates Monday, June 1, 2015, as Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge Youth Legislature Day at the state capitol 1 A RESOLUTION 2To designate Monday, June 1, 2015, as Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge Youth 3 Legislature Day at the state capitol. 4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the Youth Legislature for its outstanding 5achievements and community service for thirty-seven years to more than forty thousand 6students in Louisiana, and to designate Monday June 1, 2015, as Boys & Girls Club of 7Greater Baton Rouge Youth Legislature Day at the state capitol; and 8 WHEREAS, annually, the Youth Legislature provides a valuable educational and life 9experience to more than one thousand eight hundred middle school students; and 10 WHEREAS, through the Youth Legislature's two-day mock legislative session at the 11Old State Capitol, students learn the process and procedures of state government through a 12hands on experience; and 13 WHEREAS, students are given the opportunity to run for and elect a governor and 14House and Senate officers, participate in the legislative process by writing, sponsoring, and 15debating bills, and lead and serve on legislative committees while learning to speak before 16an audience; and 17 WHEREAS, participants of the Youth Legislature may also serve as members of the 18press by gathering and reporting information about bills, legislators, senators, and the 19governor's cabinet; and Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 130 HLS 15RS-3943 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, the Youth Legislature provides students with an experience that 2supports and solidifies information that is studied in classrooms and gives students an 3opportunity to enhance their writing, research, and public speaking skills; and 4 WHEREAS, the Youth Legislature promotes and encourages youth leadership 5characteristics, participation, cooperation, and teamwork among peers and gives students the 6confidence needed to participate in leadership roles in high school and in their respective 7communities. 8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 9Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Monday, June 1, 2015, as Boys & Girls Club 10of Greater Baton Rouge Youth Legislature Day at the state capitol and does hereby extend 11enduring appreciation to the organization, its volunteers, and participating educators for the 12knowledge, discipline, and integrity they bestow upon the youth of Louisiana. 13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 14to Paula Braud, program director of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge Youth 15Legislature.
