ENROLLED 2015 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 130 BY REPRESENTATIVE JAMES A RESOLUTION To designate Monday, June 1, 2015, as Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge Youth Legislature Day at the state capitol. WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the Youth Legislature for its outstanding achievements and community service for thirty-seven years to more than forty thousand students in Louisiana, and to designate Monday June 1, 2015, as Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge Youth Legislature Day at the state capitol; and WHEREAS, annually, the Youth Legislature provides a valuable educational and life experience to more than one thousand eight hundred middle school students; and WHEREAS, through the Youth Legislature's two-day mock legislative session at the Old State Capitol, students learn the process and procedures of state government through a hands on experience; and WHEREAS, students are given the opportunity to run for and elect a governor and House and Senate officers, participate in the legislative process by writing, sponsoring, and debating bills, and lead and serve on legislative committees while learning to speak before an audience; and WHEREAS, participants of the Youth Legislature may also serve as members of the press by gathering and reporting information about bills, legislators, senators, and the governor's cabinet; and WHEREAS, the Youth Legislature provides students with an experience that supports and solidifies information that is studied in classrooms and gives students an opportunity to enhance their writing, research, and public speaking skills; and WHEREAS, the Youth Legislature promotes and encourages youth leadership characteristics, participation, cooperation, and teamwork among peers and gives students the Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 130 ENROLLED confidence needed to participate in leadership roles in high school and in their respective communities. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Monday, June 1, 2015, as Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge Youth Legislature Day at the state capitol and does hereby extend enduring appreciation to the organization, its volunteers, and participating educators for the knowledge, discipline, and integrity they bestow upon the youth of Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Paula Braud, program director of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge Youth Legislature.
