COMMENDATIONS: Commends the 2015 Louisiana Teacher Leaders and Teacher Leader
Advisors and designates June 4, 2015, as Louisiana Teacher Leader Day at the state
capitol
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the 2015 Louisiana Teacher Leaders and Teacher Leader Advisors for their
3 leadership and outstanding service and to designate Thursday, June 4, 2015, as
4 Louisiana Teacher Leader Day at the state capitol.
5 WHEREAS, in 2013, the state Department of Education invited local public school
6systems to nominate classroom teachers to participate in a voluntary network of educators
7with the goal of promoting high-quality professional development, improved instructional
8planning, and increased student achievement; and
9 WHEREAS, participants in the network became known as Teacher Leaders and have
10grown to more than five thousand educators representing every local school system around
11the state; and
12 WHEREAS, Teacher Leaders play a critical role in facilitating the exchange of
13information, instructional strategies, and best practices between the state Department of
14Education's academic content support staff and classroom educators; and
15 WHEREAS, Teacher Leaders have served as a valuable source of information and
16feedback to the state Department of Education, the State Board of Elementary and Secondary
17Education, and to members of the Louisiana Legislature regarding a number of important
18education issues; and
19 WHEREAS, ninety educators from around the state have been selected to serve as
20Teacher Leader Advisors to support their fellow educators by providing in-person and virtual

1training, creating high quality instructional materials, and reviewing educational materials
2and resources for overall quality and alignment to state academic content standards; and
3 WHEREAS, many of these outstanding educators will lead more than two hundred
4sessions for thousands of educators attending the Louisiana Teacher Leader Summit June
54-5, 2015, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans; and
6 WHEREAS, this summit is helping educators set goals, plan for instruction, deliver
7high-quality lessons, assess results, and use evidence of student achievement to improve
8instruction.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
10Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the 2015 Louisiana Teacher Leaders and
11Teacher Leader Advisors for their commitment to Louisiana's students, their outstanding
12leadership and service to educators across the state, and their contributions in developing a
13more educated citizenry to enhance the vitality and economic opportunity of Louisiana and
14its people.
15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature
16of Louisiana does hereby designate Thursday, June 4, 2015, as Louisiana Teacher Leader
17Day at the state capitol.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that suitable copies of this Resolution be transmitted
19to the state superintendent of education and the president of the State Board of Elementary
20and Secondary Education.
