HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 142
BY REPRESENTATIVE SMITH
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Mrs. Irma Lloyd Brown upon the celebration of her
ninetieth birthday
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend Mrs. Irma Lloyd Brown upon the celebration of her ninetieth birthday.
3 WHEREAS, on the memorable and historic occasion of her ninetieth birthday, it is
4appropriate that sincere and heartfelt congratulations be extended to Mrs. Irma Lloyd Brown,
5as her lifetime of outstanding devotion to her family and her community are commended and
6celebrated; and
7 WHEREAS, Mrs. Brown was born on June 6, 1925; and
8 WHEREAS, she graduated from McKinley High School in 1943; she furthered her
9education by graduating from Leland College in 1947 and Southern University in 1950; and
10 WHEREAS, Mrs. Brown had a passion for educating the youth; she served as a
11teacher for thirty-two years and taught at Dawson High School and St. Francisville High
12School; she was a high school English teacher and also coached girls basketball; and
13 WHEREAS, she has been a dedicated member of Donaldson Chapel Baptist Church
14for eighty years, and she has served as an announcement clerk for seventy years; and
15 WHEREAS, in 1944, Mrs. Brown was one of the first African Americans to register
16to vote in East Baton Rouge Parish; and
17 WHEREAS, as an active member of her community, Mrs. Brown is a member of the
18Leland College Alumni Association and is a founding board member of Shiloh Baptist
19Church Credit Union; and
20 WHEREAS, she was married to the late Emile J. Brown; and

1 WHEREAS, for ninety years, Mrs. Brown has distinguished herself as an exemplary
2and highly admired citizen of Louisiana.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
4Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Mrs. Irma Lloyd Brown upon the celebration
5of her ninetieth birthday; does hereby recognize and record for posterity the extraordinary
6life she has lived; does hereby express enduring gratitude for the singular contributions she
7has made to her family, friends, community, and state; and does hereby extend to her every
8good wish for health and happiness in the future.
9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
10to Mrs. Irma Lloyd Brown.
