HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 142
BY REPRESENTATIVE SMITH
A RESOLUTION
To commend Mrs. Irma Lloyd Brown upon the celebration of her ninetieth birthday.
WHEREAS, on the memorable and historic occasion of her ninetieth birthday, it is
appropriate that sincere and heartfelt congratulations be extended to Mrs. Irma Lloyd Brown,
as her lifetime of outstanding devotion to her family and her community are commended and
celebrated; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Brown was born on June 6, 1925; and
WHEREAS, she graduated from McKinley High School in 1943; she furthered her
education by graduating from Leland College in 1947 and Southern University in 1950; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Brown had a passion for educating the youth; she served as a
teacher for thirty-two years and taught at Dawson High School and St. Francisville High
School; she was a high school English teacher and also coached girls basketball; and
WHEREAS, she has been a dedicated member of Donaldson Chapel Baptist Church
for eighty years, and she has served as an announcement clerk for seventy years; and
WHEREAS, in 1944, Mrs. Brown was one of the first African Americans to register
to vote in East Baton Rouge Parish; and
WHEREAS, as an active member of her community, Mrs. Brown is a member of the
Leland College Alumni Association and is a founding board member of Shiloh Baptist
Church Credit Union; and
WHEREAS, she was married to the late Emile J. Brown; and
WHEREAS, for ninety years, Mrs. Brown has distinguished herself as an exemplary
and highly admired citizen of Louisiana.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Mrs. Irma Lloyd Brown upon the celebration
of her ninetieth birthday; does hereby recognize and record for posterity the extraordinary
life she has lived; does hereby express enduring gratitude for the singular contributions she
has made to her family, friends, community, and state; and does hereby extend to her every
good wish for health and happiness in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Mrs. Irma Lloyd Brown.
