HLS 15RS-4161 ORIGINAL 2015 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 145 BY REPRESENTATIVE HONORE CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Gene Marie Lane 1 A RESOLUTION 2To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Gene Marie 3 Lane. 4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Louisiana House of 5Representatives has learned of the death of Gene Marie Lane on Sunday, May 31, 2015; and 6 WHEREAS, Gene Marie Lane was born on August 5, 1949, in Pinckneyville, 7Mississippi, to Frank Lane, Jr., and Katie Mae Warren Lane; and 8 WHEREAS, she received her education through the East Baton Rouge Parish School 9System and was a 1967 graduate of Scotlandville Senior High School; Ms. Lane also 10attended Southern University; and 11 WHEREAS, she worked for AT&T, and after thirty years of dedicated service to the 12company, she retired in 2002; she also worked as a school crossing guard for the East Baton 13Rouge Parish School System; and 14 WHEREAS, as an active member of her community, Ms. Lane was a member of the 15Scotlandville Alumni Association and several service organizations such as the Order of the 16Eastern Star, the Golden Age Retirees Club, and the International Red Hat Society; and 17 WHEREAS, she was an enthusiastic bicyclist and walker, and she also found joy in 18bowling and traveling; and 19 WHEREAS, Ms. Lane brought true happiness to those whose lives she touched 20through her devotion to her family and friends, her generosity, and her kind and giving heart; 21and Page 1 of 2 HLS 15RS-4161 ORIGINAL HR NO. 145 1 WHEREAS, Ms. Lane was preceded in death by her mother, her maternal and 2paternal grandparents, seven aunts and seven uncles; and 3 WHEREAS, left to cherish Ms. Lane's memory are her father; her sister, Linda L. 4Lane-Shabazz; her aunt, Nancy Lane; her great-aunt, Irene Reese; her cousin, Joyce 5Hickman; and numerous other relatives and friends; and 6 WHEREAS, the death of Gene Marie Lane has left a tremendous void in her 7community and has created a genuine sense of sorrow in the many individuals who knew and 8loved this extraordinary woman. 9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 10Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the 11death of Gene Marie Lane; does hereby recognize that her death has left a great void and 12created a genuine sense of sorrow in her family and community; and does hereby recognize 13and record for posterity the tremendous pride and honor that she will continue to bring to her 14family, friends, community, and the state of Louisiana. 15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 16to the family of Gene Marie Lane.
