HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 145
BY REPRESENTATIVE HONORE
A RESOLUTION
To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Gene Marie
Lane.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Louisiana House of
Representatives has learned of the death of Gene Marie Lane on Sunday, May 31, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Gene Marie Lane was born on August 5, 1949, in Pinckneyville,
Mississippi, to Frank Lane, Jr., and Katie Mae Warren Lane; and
WHEREAS, she received her education through the East Baton Rouge Parish School
System and was a 1967 graduate of Scotlandville Senior High School; Ms. Lane also
attended Southern University; and
WHEREAS, she worked for AT&T, and after thirty years of dedicated service to the
company, she retired in 2002; she also worked as a school crossing guard for the East Baton
Rouge Parish School System; and
WHEREAS, as an active member of her community, Ms. Lane was a member of the
Scotlandville Alumni Association and several service organizations such as the Order of the
Eastern Star, the Golden Age Retirees Club, and the International Red Hat Society; and
WHEREAS, she was an enthusiastic bicyclist and walker, and she also found joy in
bowling and traveling; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Lane brought true happiness to those whose lives she touched
through her devotion to her family and friends, her generosity, and her kind and giving heart;
and
WHEREAS, Ms. Lane was preceded in death by her mother, her maternal and
paternal grandparents, seven aunts and seven uncles; and

WHEREAS, left to cherish Ms. Lane's memory are her father; her sister, Linda L.
Lane-Shabazz; her aunt, Nancy Lane; her great-aunt, Irene Reese; her cousin, Joyce
Hickman; and numerous other relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS, the death of Gene Marie Lane has left a tremendous void in her
community and has created a genuine sense of sorrow in the many individuals who knew and
loved this extraordinary woman.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the
death of Gene Marie Lane; does hereby recognize that her death has left a great void and
created a genuine sense of sorrow in her family and community; and does hereby recognize
and record for posterity the tremendous pride and honor that she will continue to bring to her
family, friends, community, and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the family of Gene Marie Lane.
