HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 157
BY REPRESENTATIVE REYNOLDS
A RESOLUTION
To commend Madeline Bethea upon being named one of Louisiana's top two youth
volunteers of 2015 by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Madeline Bethea, a resident of Minden,
Louisiana, upon being named one of Louisiana's top two youth volunteers of 2015 by the
Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and
WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is a nationwide program
that honors young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Madeline Bethea, a student at Webster Junior High School, achieved
national recognition for her exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2015 Prudential Spirt
of Community Award; and
WHEREAS, over the past eight years, Madeline has delivered more than fifteen
thousand stuffed animals to nursing homes, children's hospitals, and emergency first
responders in seven states to comfort those who are in need of a friend; and
WHEREAS, many churches, schools, and civic organizations have contributed to
Madeline's work to help decrease the loneliness and depression in nursing homes and
hospitals; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend upon the dedication of young people like
Madeline Bethea who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Madeline Bethea as the recipient of a 2015
Prudential Spirit of Community Award; does hereby recognize her outstanding volunteer
service, peer leadership, and community service; and does hereby extend to her best wishes
for continued success and happiness.
