HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 206
BY REPRESENTATIVES SMITH, BARROW, BERTHELOT, CARTER, EDWARDS,
FOIL, HAVARD, HODGES, HONORE, IVEY, JAMES, LAMBERT, MACK,
OURSO, PONTI, POPE, PRICE, SCHEXNAYDER, ST. GERMAIN, THIBAUT,
AND ALFRED WILLIAMS
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the University High School girls' basketball team upon
winning the Class 3A state championship
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend the University High School girls' basketball team upon winning the Class 3A
3 state championship title and to congratulate the Lady Cubs on an outstanding 2014-
4 2015 season.
5 WHEREAS, the number one-seeded University High School girls' basketball team
6claimed a 52-42 victory over third-seeded Mansfield in the Class 3A title game at the
7Louisiana High School Athletic Association Girls Top 28 basketball tournament; and
8 WHEREAS, the thrilling victory was a memorable one for the Lady Cubs, as it
9marked University High School's second state title in as many years; and
10 WHEREAS, the Lady Cubs became the first University High team to win back-to-
11back state titles in a major sport since the boys' basketball team in the 1983-1984 season; and
12 WHEREAS, Head Coach Bonita Johnson and Assistant Coaches Susan Gremillion,
13Ashley Applegate, and Adam Barrett have instilled in the players the necessary skills to
14become great basketball players and outstanding members in their community by
15demonstrating motivational leadership to produce winners on and off the court; and
16 WHEREAS, the members of the Lady Cubs include Chelsea Verrett, Bailey
17Edwards, Mikayla Bates, Alyssa Fisher, Kaila Anderson, Grace Courtright, Sierra Mayes,
18Genea Miles, Madelyn Myer, Dahlia Johnson, Faith Kwentua, Alanie Fisher, Destiny
19Ephrom, Nyla Marshall, and Marygrace Constantin; and

1 WHEREAS, all members of the Lady Cubs basketball team deserve recognition for
2their outstanding game performance; title game outstanding player, Alanie Fisher, finished
3with a game high of twenty-one points and three steals; Destiny Ephrom finished with ten
4fourth quarter points and six rebounds; Mikayla Bates finished with nine points and six
5steals; Kaila Anderson had eleven assists; Chelsea Verrett scored eight points; and Genea
6Miles contributed to the game win with seven rebounds; and
7 WHEREAS, the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana wishes to
8recognize the well-deserved Lady Cubs on their Class 3A state title, to commend the team
9for the ability they have displayed throughout the season, and to express its congratulations
10to the team members and to Head Coach Bonita Johnson for the merits won and the pride
11shown while achieving such a high honor for University High School.
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
13Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the members of the
14University High School girls' basketball team and Head Coach Bonita Johnson for winning
15the Class 3A state title at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Girls Top 28
16basketball tournament and for completing a successful 2014-2015 season with a final record
17of 32-2 through dedicated performance by each team member, which brings honor to the
18school, the community, and the state of Louisiana.
19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
20to Head Coach Bonita Johnson.
