HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 213

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Dr. William J. Nunez, III, upon his retirement after 45
years in higher education
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend Dr. William J. Nunez, III, upon his retirement after forty-five years in higher
3 education and to recognize his dedication to Louisiana students.
4 WHEREAS, William J. Nunez, III, earned a bachelor's degree in zoology and
5chemistry and a master's degree in microbiology and biochemistry from Louisiana State
6University, and a doctorate in immunology/microbiology from the University of North
7Texas; and
8 WHEREAS, for forty-five years, Dr. William J. Nunez, III, has been a leader in
9academia and campus administration, rising through faculty ranks to serve as chancellor of
10Louisiana State University-Eunice; and
11 WHEREAS, Dr. Nunez was named chancellor of LSU-Eunice in 1996 after serving
12as a professor and chairman of Biology and Health Sciences at the University of Detroit, the
13dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Missouri Western State University, and the vice
14chancellor for Academic Affairs at Indiana University-Kokomo; and
15 WHEREAS, during Dr. Nunez's sixteen-year tenure as chancellor, LSU-Eunice 
16became a competitive regional institution that has earned the support and respect of the
17community and the state; and
18 WHEREAS, LSU-Eunice has achieved reaccreditation twice under the leadership of
19Dr. Nunez while the institution has grown in size, become more technologically advanced,
20and increased its academic standards, and the university continues to provide critical access
21to higher education for students in the Acadiana region; and

1 WHEREAS, Dr. Nunez created development and awards programs for LSU-Eunice
2faculty and staff; he also implemented the Program Appraisal Process and the Advanced
3College Program, which served as the precursor for the dual-enrollment program within the
4Board of Regents; and
5 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the achievements of this outstanding
6higher education administrator upon his retirement after forty-five years of service.
7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
8Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Dr. William J. Nunez, III, upon the occasion
9of his retirement after forty-five years of service in higher education; does hereby express
10the gratitude of the citizens of the state for his contributions to the learning and development
11of young minds; and does hereby extend best wishes for a rich and full life in his retirement
12years.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
14to Dr. William J. Nunez, III.
