COMMENDATIONS: Commends the organizers and volunteers of the 2015 Plaquemines
Parish Heritage and Seafood Festival
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the organizers and volunteers of the 2015 Plaquemines Parish Heritage and
3 Seafood Festival.
4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the organizers and volunteers of the
5Plaquemines Parish Heritage and Seafood Festival, held annually in May in Belle Chasse,
6Louisiana; and
7 WHEREAS, the Plaquemines Parish Heritage and Seafood Festival celebrates the
8rich heritage of the people of Plaquemines Parish; and
9 WHEREAS, the inaugural Plaquemines Parish Heritage and Seafood Festival was
10held on Memorial Day weekend in 2005 and has evolved into a beloved tradition for the
11people of Plaquemines Parish and beyond; and
12 WHEREAS, the Plaquemines Parish Heritage and Seafood Festival is a family
13friendly event featuring the parish's signature seafood and other local food specialties, live
14music from popular local bands, traditional Cajun music, crafts from local artisans, carnival
15rides, tank fishing, sandbagging contests, helicopter rides, the Seafood Queen pageant, and
16other memorable activities; and
17 WHEREAS, Diana Medina, a young woman of many gifts and talents, reigns as the
18current Seafood Queen with great distinction and dedication; and
19 WHEREAS, the festival's organizers and volunteers have persevered through several
20hurricanes as well as the 2010 oil spill, earning the respect, admiration, and enduring
21appreciation of their fellow citizens; and

1 WHEREAS, the organizers and volunteers of the 2015 Plaquemines Parish Heritage
2and Seafood Festival merit a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for the
3tremendous pride and honor that this wonderful annual event brings to the citizens of
4Louisiana.
5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
6Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the organizers and volunteers of the 2015
7Plaquemines Parish Heritage and Seafood Festival and does hereby recognize this
8extraordinary festival as an integral part of the culture and history of Plaquemines Parish and
9the state of Louisiana.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
11to Keith Hinkley, president of the Seafood Festival.
