HLS 15RS-1441 ORIGINAL 2015 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 44 BY REPRESENTATIVE PIERRE COMMENDATIONS: Commends Patricia Colbert-Cormier, recipient of the Louisiana Association of Educators' 2015 Human and Civil Rights Award 1 A RESOLUTION 2To commend Patricia Colbert-Cormier upon her receipt of the Louisiana Association of 3 Educators' 2015 Human and Civil Rights Award. 4 WHEREAS, Patricia Colbert-Cormier is a powerful advocate for minorities and 5displays creativity, perseverance, and extraordinary courage in her efforts to spread 6awareness about the rights of minorities; and 7 WHEREAS, Ms. Colbert-Cormier also has served in several different capacities 8within local and state chapters of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored 9People, and for twenty-seven years, she has been leading the Black History Month program 10at her high school; she founded her own nonprofit education group to reach out to high 11school dropouts; and 12 WHEREAS, she has been a teacher and an inspiration to students for nearly fifty 13years; currently, she teaches biology at David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy; and 14 WHEREAS, Ms. Colbert-Cormier has a passion to engage the youth of Lafayette in 15innovative lessons about human and civil rights, and she merits a special measure of 16commendation for the tremendous pride she brings to the state of Louisiana. 17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 18Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Patricia Colbert-Cormier upon receiving the 19Louisiana Association of Educators' 2015 Human and Civil Rights Award; does hereby 20recognize and record for posterity her outstanding commitment and contributions in bringing Page 1 of 2 HLS 15RS-1441 ORIGINAL HR NO. 44 1awareness about the rights of minorities and women; and does hereby wish Ms. Colbert- 2Cormier full measures of success and happiness in her future endeavors. 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 4to Patricia Colbert-Cormier.
