ENROLLED 2015 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 45 BY REPRESENTATIVE SEABAUGH A RESOLUTION To designate Tuesday, April 28, 2015, as American Rose Society Day at the state capitol and to commend the American Rose Society for its contributions. WHEREAS, on November 20, 1986, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5574 which declared the rose to be The National Floral Emblem of the United States of America; since the signing of the proclamation, the rose has become a beloved patriotic symbol of our nation; and WHEREAS, the American Rose Society (ARS) was founded in 1892 and is the oldest single plant horticultural society in America; and WHEREAS, the ARS is an educational, nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to the cultivation and enjoyment of roses; members of the ARS are provided with many educational programs, resourceful publications, and continuing research; and WHEREAS, headquartered on the grounds of the beautiful American Rose Center in Shreveport since 1974, the ARS has contributed more than sixty million dollars in total economic impact to northwest Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the gardens of the American Rose Center are the nation's largest park dedicated to roses; currently, the American Rose Center features more than sixty-five individual rose gardens, twenty thousand rosebushes, varieties of companion plants, sculptures, and fountains including the beautiful Dudley Watkins Reflection Pool; and WHEREAS, the American Rose Society has a long and rich history, with remarkable growth since its founding, and continues to promote the culture and appreciation of the rose through education and research to its members, local rose societies and their members, and the general public. Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 45 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the American Rose Society for its extraordinary efforts in providing education about the rose to America and does hereby designate Tuesday, April 28, 2015, as American Rose Society Day at the state capitol.
