BY REPRESENTATIVES LORUSSO, HENRY, AND LEGER
COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Jesuit High School football team upon winning the
2014 Division I state championship
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Jesuit High School football team upon winning the Division I state football
3 championship on December 5, 2014.
4 WHEREAS, Jesuit High School won its eighth state championship with a 17-14 win
5over John Curtis Christian High School in the title game of the 2014 Division I state football
6championship and it is appropriate to commend the players and coaches on this outstanding
7achievement; and
8 WHEREAS, 2014 marks the first time the Blue Jays made an appearance in the
9Louisiana High School Athletic Association's Prep Classic since 1978, and also marked their
10first advance to the state finals since 1978; and
11 WHEREAS, the Jesuit Blue Jays captured their first state championship in football
12in 1933 and had not won a state championship title since 1960; and
13 WHEREAS, the Blue Jays finished the 2014 season with a 12-2 record; the amazing
14accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved without the guidance and skills
15of head coach Mark Songy, as well as the assistant coaches and other individuals who have
16contributed to the success of the school's football program; and
17 WHEREAS, the Blue Jays ended the 2014 season with a six game winning streak,
18including defeating St. Augustine High School in two consecutive games; and
19 WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest levels of
20excellence, and each intrepid Blue Jay deserves recognition for his vital contribution to the
21winning effort; and

1 WHEREAS, the Louisiana House of Representatives wishes to recognize the well-
2deserved title the Jesuit Blue Jays have earned and to express its sincere and heartfelt
3congratulations to the team members and coaching staff for the merits earned and the
4sportsmanship shown while achieving such a high honor for Jesuit High School.
5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
6Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Jesuit High School football team for
7winning the 2014 Division I state football championship and for a truly spectacular season;
8does hereby recognize the Blue Jays' outstanding performance and the honor and pride that
9the team has brought to its school and community; and does hereby extend best wishes to
10the Jesuit High School Blue Jays for continued success in the future.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
12to Mark Songy, head coach of the Jesuit High School Blue Jays.
