HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 95

COMMENDATIONS: Commends Rev. Howard W. Byrd, SSJ, upon the celebration of his
fortieth anniversary of ordination to the priesthood
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Reverend Howard W. Byrd, SSJ, upon the celebration of his fortieth
3 anniversary of ordination to the priesthood and to honor his noble contributions in
4 priestly ministry.
5 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Reverend Howard W. Byrd, SSJ, upon the
6memorable and historic occasion of the fortieth anniversary of his ordination; and
7 WHEREAS, raised in the Josephite parish of St. Benedict the Moor, Reverend Byrd
8attended school at Holy Redeemer; after completing high school, he entered the Josephite
9Minor Seminary at the age of eighteen and became ordained to the priesthood in 1975; and
10 WHEREAS, he served as the pastoral associate of Corpus Christi Parish in New
11Orleans and had additional teaching duties at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans;
12he was appointed as a full-time member of the high school staff at St. Augustine, a position
13he currently holds, and he is the campus minister of the school; and
14 WHEREAS, for fifteen years, Reverend Byrd was the vice rector for the Josephite
15House of Studies; in 1998, he began his work as parochial administrator and pastor of
16Blessed Sacrament Parish in New Orleans, where he served for ten years; and
17 WHEREAS, following Hurricane Katrina, Reverend Byrd served as pastor of
18Blessed Sacrament-Joan of Arc Catholic Church for four years; and
19 WHEREAS, upon the celebration of Reverend Byrd's fortieth anniversary of
20ordination, it is appropriate to recognize his honorable leadership and inspiration.

1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
2Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Reverend Howard W. Byrd, SSJ, upon the
3celebration of his fortieth anniversary of ordination to the priesthood; does hereby recognize
4his noble achievements and contributions in his priestly ministry; and does hereby wish him
5full measures of success and happiness in the future.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
7to Reverend Howard W. Byrd, SSJ.
