ENROLLED 2015 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 95 BY REPRESENTATIVE BADON A RESOLUTION To commend Reverend Howard W. Byrd, SSJ, upon the celebration of his fortieth anniversary of ordination to the priesthood and to honor his noble contributions in priestly ministry. WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Reverend Howard W. Byrd, SSJ, upon the memorable and historic occasion of the fortieth anniversary of his ordination; and WHEREAS, raised in the Josephite parish of St. Benedict the Moor, Reverend Byrd attended school at Holy Redeemer; after completing high school, he entered the Josephite Minor Seminary at the age of eighteen and became ordained to the priesthood in 1975; and WHEREAS, he served as the pastoral associate of Corpus Christi Parish in New Orleans and had additional teaching duties at St. Augustine High School in New Orleans; he was appointed as a full-time member of the high school staff at St. Augustine, a position he currently holds, and he is the campus minister of the school; and WHEREAS, for fifteen years, Reverend Byrd was the vice rector for the Josephite House of Studies; in 1998, he began his work as parochial administrator and pastor of Blessed Sacrament Parish in New Orleans, where he served for ten years; and WHEREAS, following Hurricane Katrina, Reverend Byrd served as pastor of Blessed Sacrament-Joan of Arc Catholic Church for four years; and WHEREAS, upon the celebration of Reverend Byrd's fortieth anniversary of ordination, it is appropriate to recognize his honorable leadership and inspiration. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Reverend Howard W. Byrd, SSJ, upon the celebration of his fortieth anniversary of ordination to the priesthood; does hereby recognize his noble achievements and contributions in his priestly ministry; and does hereby wish him full measures of success and happiness in the future.
