PARISHES.  Provides criteria for parish governing authorities to consider when determining
a heavily populated area within the unincorporated area of the parish for purposes of
prohibiting, restricting, or regulating the shooting of firearms. (8/1/15)
1	AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 33:120, relative to the authority of a parish governing authority
3 to prohibit, restrict, or regulate hunting and shooting of firearms in heavily populated
4 areas; to provide for what constitutes a heavily populated area within the
5 unincorporated area of a parish; and to provide for related matters.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1. R.S. 33:120 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 
8 ยง120.  Zoning of heavily populated areas from hunting and shooting of firearms
9	A. The governing authorities of the parishes of this State state are authorized
10 to zone in order to prohibit, restrict, or regulate hunting and the shooting of firearms
11 in the heavily populated areas, of the unincorporated area of the parish as
12 determined by said the governing authorities, within their parishes subject to the
13 provisions of Subsection B of this Section, and to set penalties for violation thereof.
14	B. As used in this Section, "heavily populated area" shall not include any
15 of the following:
16	(1) Any parcel or tract of land which is in excess of five acres and which
17 includes no more than one single-family residence on the parcel or tract.

1	(2) A dedicated residential subdivision which is recorded as provided in
2 R.S. 33:5051 and in which each residential lot or unit of the subdivision is in
3 excess of five acres.

Present law authorizes a parish governing authority to zone in order to prohibit, restrict, or
regulate hunting and the shooting of firearms in heavily populated areas, as determined by
each authority, within their parishes, and to set penalties for violations.
Proposed law provides that a "heavily populated area" shall not include any of the following:
(1)Any parcel or tract of land which is in excess of five acres and which includes no
more than one single-family residence on the parcel or tract.
(2)A dedicated residential subdivision which is recorded in the parish conveyance
records in which each residential lot or unit of the subdivision is in excess of five
acres.
Effective August 1, 2015.
