Act 173 (SB 264) 2015 Regular Session Dorsey-Colomb
Prior law prohibited the use of a tracking device and provides that violators be punished by
a fine of not less that $100 and not more than $500, or imprisonment for not more than six
months, or both.
New law increases the prior law penalties as follows:
(1)For the first offense, the violator is subject to a fine of not less that $500 and not
more that $1,000, or imprisonment for not more than six months.
(2)For the second offense, the violator is subject to a fine of not less than $750 and not
more than $1,500, or imprisonment for not less than 30 days nor more than six
months, or both.
(3)For the third offense and all subsequent offenses, the violator subject to a fine of not
less than $1,000 and not more than $2,000, or imprisonment for not less than 60 days
nor more than one year, or both. 
New law provides an exemption from the prohibition for any employer that provides a
cellular device to employees for use during the course and scope of employment.
Effective upon signature of the governor (June 23, 2015).
