(gov sig) 1 AN ACT 2 To enact R.S. 17:182.1 and 3996(B)(39), relative to schools and student instruction; to 3 require public school governing authorities and schools to inform students and 4 parents regarding certain homework assistance services; to provide for the posting 5 of this information in public schools; to provide relative to Department of Education 6 support; and to provide for related matters. 7 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 8 Section 1. R.S. 17:182.1 and 3996(B)(39) are hereby enacted to read as follows: 9 §182.1. Homework assistance 10 A. Each public school governing authority shall actively promote and 11 provide information to students and parents on how to access the after-school 12 online homework assistance services offered through the State Library of 13 Louisiana and their local public library. 14 B. Each public school shall post the information required by this Section 3 in a prominent location where it can be seen by all students on a daily basis. 4 D. The state Department of Education shall collaborate with the State 5 Library of Louisiana to align and promote its after-school homework assistance 6 services and programs related to elementary and secondary education. 7 * * * 8 §3996. Charter schools; exemptions; requirements 9 * * * 10 B. Notwithstanding any state law, rule, or regulation to the contrary and 11 except as may be otherwise specifically provided for in an approved charter, a 12 charter school established and operated in accordance with the provisions of this 13 Chapter and its approved charter and the school's officers and employees shall be 14 exempt from all statutory mandates or other statutory requirements that are 15 applicable to public schools and to public school officers and employees except for 16 the following laws otherwise applicable to public schools with the same grades: 17 * * * 18 (39) Notification of homework assistance services, R.S. 17:182.1. 19 * * * 20 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not 21 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature 22 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If 23 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become 24 effective on the day following such approval.
