(8/1/15) 1 AN ACT 2 To enact R.S. 18:114(C), relative to voter registration; to provide for the transmittal of 3 registered drivers; to provide for registrant notification; to provide an option to 4 decline registration; to provide for political party affiliation; and to provide for 5 related matters. 6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 7 Section 1. R.S. 18:114(C) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 8 ยง114. Registration at driver's license facilities 9 * * * 10 C. The Department of Public Safety and Corrections shall transmit 11 quarterly to the secretary of state a list of noncommercial drivers over the age 12 of eighteen licensed in the state. DIGEST SB 44 Original 2015 Regular Session Peterson Present law provides that a driver's license or identification card issued by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections made by an applicant 18 years or older also serve as an application for voter registration unless specifically declined. Proposed law requires the Department of Public Safety and Corrections to deliver to the secretary of state a list of all licensed drivers over the age of 18. Proposed law requires the secretary of state to send a postcard to all licensed drivers over the age of 18 that are not registered to vote offering them the opportunity to register as a voter, choose a political party affiliation, or decline to register to vote.
