SENATE BILL NO. 45

LOCAL AGENCIES.  Provides relative to appointing tenant commissioners to the governing
authority of the city of New Orleans housing authority. (8/1/15)
1	AN ACT
2 To amend and reenact R.S. 40:531(B), relative to the Housing Authority of New Orleans;
3 to provide relative to appointments of tenant commissioners; and to provide for
4 related matters.
5	Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.
6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 40:531(B) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
8 ยง531. Appointment of commissioners to local housing authority

10	B. In the city of New Orleans, the governing authority of the housing
11 authority shall consist of seven commissioners, at least two of whom shall be tenants
12 of the housing authority. The commissioners shall be appointed by the mayor of the
13 city of New Orleans and shall serve terms concurrent with that of the mayor. The
14 tenant commissioners shall be chosen from a list of names submitted to the mayor
15 by the Citywide Tenants Council, Inc., of the housing authority. The number of
16 names submitted shall be three for each vacancy to be filled by a tenant

1 commissioner. Vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired term.

Present law provides for the governing authority of the housing authority of the city of New
Orleans to consist of seven commissioners, at least two of whom shall be tenants of the
housing authority.
Present law provides for the commissioners to be appointed by the mayor of the city of New
Orleans.
Proposed law retains present law but removes the requirement that the tenant commissioners
are to be chosen from a list of names submitted to the mayor by the Citywide Tenants
Council, Inc., of the housing authority.
Effective August 1, 2015.
