CONDOLENCES. Expresses condolences on the death of Jonathan Scott Pine.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To express the sincere condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Orange
3 County, Florida Deputy and Louisiana native, Jonathan Scott Pine.
4 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Legislature of
5 Louisiana has learned of the death of Deputy Jonathan Scott Pine, who was shot and killed
6 in the line of duty on February 11, 2014; and
7 WHEREAS, Deputy Pine was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on July 12, 1979, to
8 Robert and Donna Pine and grew up in Bossier City, Louisiana, graduating from Airline
9 High School in 1997; and
10 WHEREAS, Scott attended Louisiana Tech University where he received a Masters
11 of Business Administration degree, and where he met and fell in love with his future wife,
12 Bridget; and
13 WHEREAS, Scott and Bridget subsequently moved to Orlando, Florida, where they
14 were blessed with three children, a daughter, Haley, and two sons, Ryker, and Maddox, and
15 where he successfully worked in the banking industry for eight years before answering the
16 call to serve as a law enforcement officer; and
17 WHEREAS, he joined the Orange County Sheriff's Office in 2011, and upon
18 completion of his training, was assigned as a patrol officer protecting the citizens of Orange

1 County; and
2 WHEREAS, early on the morning of February 11, 2014, while it was still dark,
3 Deputy Pine was investigating a series of car burglaries and attempting to apprehend a
4 fleeing suspect. Deputy Pine chased the suspect, a wanted felon armed with a 9mm handgun,
5 into a nearby backyard where he was ambushed. Two shots struck Deputy Pine's bulletproof
6 vest, and a third pierced his chest; and
7 WHEREAS, despite the valiant attempts of emergency responders to save his life,
8 Deputy Pine succumbed to his wounds in the line of duty; and
9 WHEREAS, Deputy Pine's life and his sacrifice demonstrate the bravery, courage,
10 heroism, honor, and devotion to duty representative of the law enforcement officers of
11 Louisiana, Florida, and throughout the United States; and
12 WHEREAS, Scott is survived by his beloved wife, Bridget, their three beautiful
13 children, Haley, Ryker, and Maddox, his mother, Donna Pine Robinson, his father,
14 Robert Pine, and his sister, Angela Pine Mills, and the many thousands of brothers and
15 sisters who wear the shield, carry on his legacy, and proudly stand on the thin blue line every
16 day; and
17 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
18 and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure on courageous, brave,
19 heroic men like Jonathan Scott Pine.
20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
21 mourn the passing of Deputy Jonathan Scott Pine, and expresses their heartfelt sympathies
22 and condolences to his family and friends, and honors his life and accomplishments, and
23 records for posterity his devotion to duty and his sacrifice in defense of the citizens whose
24 lives he protected.
25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
26 family of Deputy Jonathan Scott Pine, and the Sheriff of Orange County, Florida.
