SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 27
BY SENATOR ERDEY AND REPRESENTATI VE POPE 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Dr. Milton Hughes on his retirement from the Livingston
Parish School Board and on 44 years of dedicated public service.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend and congratulate Dr. Milton Hughes on his retirement from the Livingston
3 Parish School Board representing District 3.
4 WHEREAS, Milton Hughes graduated from Doyle High School in 1953, attended
5 Southeastern Louisiana University, and graduated from Loyola University in 1959 with a
6 doctoral degree in dental surgery; and
7 WHEREAS, from 1959 to 1961, he served in the United States Navy; and
8 WHEREAS, Dr. Hughes practiced dentistry in Denham Springs until he retired from
9 that profession in 2007; and
10 WHEREAS, he was first elected to the Livingston Parish School Board in 1970 and
11 retired in 2014 after forty-four consecutive years of public service; and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Hughes is a member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Denham
13 Springs and was elected to the Denham Springs High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014
14 as a supporter; and
15 WHEREAS, he was married to Gloria Grantham Hughes of Livingston for fifty years
16 and has three children and six grandchildren; and
17 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
18 and the overall vitality of American society depend upon people like Dr. Milton Hughes, an

1 extraordinary gentleman and public servant, and a true inspiration to all; and
2 WHEREAS, Dr. Milton Hughes merits a special measure of commendation for the
3 tremendous pride and honor that he brings to his family, friends, community, the parish of
4 Livingston, and the state of Louisiana.
5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
6 commend and congratulate Dr. Milton Hughes, Livingston Parish School Board member
7 representing District 3, for his dedicated public service upon his retirement, does hereby
8 recognize and record for posterity his accomplishments and contributions to his community,
9 and does hereby extend best wishes for his continued success and happiness in the years to
10 come.
11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
12 Dr. Milton Hughes.
