SLS 15RS-321 ORIGINAL 2015 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 29 BY SENATOR MORRELL CRIMINAL JUSTICE. Extends the Capital Punishment Fiscal Impact Commission study and reporting deadline until January 1, 2018. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To extend the term of the Capital Punishment Fiscal Impact Commission, which was created 3 to study the fiscal costs of the death penalty in Louisiana and to recommend any 4 action or legislation that the commission deems necessary or appropriate. 5 WHEREAS, by Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 54 of the 2014 Regular Session, 6 the Legislature of Louisiana created the Capital Punishment Fiscal Impact Commission to 7 conduct a study of the fiscal impact of capital punishment in this state; and 8 WHEREAS, Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 54 of the 2014 Regular Session of 9 the legislature sets forth that the commission is to report its findings and recommendations, 10 including suggestions for proposed legislation, if any, to the chairman of the Senate 11 Judiciary B Committee, the chairman of the House Committee on Administration of 12 Criminal Justice, and the legislature, not later than January 1, 2016; and 13 WHEREAS, Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 54 of the 2014 Regular Session of 14 the legislature sets forth that the commission is to terminate not later than January 2, 2016; 15 and 16 WHEREAS, it has been determined by the commission that additional time is 17 required to study fully the fiscal impact of capital punishment in this state and to prepare and 18 submit its report as required by the resolution. Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 29 SLS 15RS-321 ORIGINAL 1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 2 extend the date by which the commission is to submit its report to the chairman of the Senate 3 Judiciary B Committee, the chairman of the House Committee on Administration of 4 Criminal Justice, and the legislature, to not later than January 1, 2018. 5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend 6 the date by which the commission shall terminate to not later than January 2, 2018.
