Commends Pilots for Patients for its invaluable philanthropic service of providing free air transportation for Louisiana patients to medical treatment facilities throughout the United States of America. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend Pilots for Patients for its invaluable philanthropic service of providing free air 3 transportation for Louisiana patients to medical treatment facilities throughout the 4 United States of America. 5 WHEREAS, based in Monroe, Louisiana, Pilots for Patients offers free air 6 transportation for Louisiana patients needing diagnosis and treatment at medical facilities, 7 such as the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and St. Jude Children's 8 Research Hospital; and 9 WHEREAS, the primary goal of this nonprofit organization is to eliminate travel 10 burdens, allowing patients to concentrate on getting well; and 11 WHEREAS, Pilots for Patients organizes certified pilots, who volunteer their time, 12 fuel, and airplanes, to fly patients needing assistance on their medical journey to wherever 13 treatment awaits; and 14 WHEREAS, at its inception in 2007, Pilots for Patients began with five volunteer 15 pilots and has since grown to a listing of one hundred and five volunteer pilots; and 16 WHEREAS, pilots with this organization have flown more than two thousand two 17 hundred flights; and 18 WHEREAS, upon arrival at a medical treatment facility, Pilots for Patients are Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 49 SLS 15RS-611 ORIGINAL 1 greeted by Ground Angels, who meet and move patients, also free of charge, from the 2 aircraft to their treatment facility or lodging location; and 3 WHEREAS, Pilots for Patients also partners with other humanitarian groups to fly 4 relay missions over greater distances, along with providing key support during state and 5 national disasters when patients require quick evacuation from areas facing imminent 6 danger; and 7 WHEREAS, Pilots for Patients routinely provides stuffed animals to sick children, 8 providing them comfort during flight and regularly allows the children to sit in the airplane 9 cockpit, where pilots explain the mysteries of flight; and 10 WHEREAS, Pilots for Patients continue to make an extraordinarily powerful and real 11 difference in the lives of needy Louisianians who may never have received medical 12 treatment were it not for the brave and selfless efforts of these volunteer pilots who truly 13 care and are willing to give of their time and resources to others. 14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 15 commend Pilots for Patients for its invaluable philanthropic service of providing free air 16 transportation for Louisiana patients to medical treatment facilities throughout the United 17 States of America. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Pilots 19 for Patients.
