Commends Philip Mark Thomas for being named one of the top ten 2014 pilots for Pilots for Patients and for being named the 2013 Pilot of the Year for Pilots for Patients. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend and congratulate Philip Mark Thomas for being named one of the top ten 2014 3 pilots for Pilots for Patients and for being named the 2013 Pilot of the Year for Pilots 4 for Patients. 5 WHEREAS, Pilots for Patients, based in Monroe, Louisiana, organizes pilots who 6 are willing to volunteer their time and money to fly patients to receive medical care; and 7 WHEREAS, since its inception in 2007, Pilots for Patients has flown almost 8 twenty-three hundred flights, free of charge to patients, and currently has a listing of one 9 hundred five volunteer pilots; and 10 WHEREAS, Philip Mark Thomas is the president and founder of Precision Paper & 11 Board based in Monroe, Louisiana, established in 1985, and is the founder, director, and 12 president of Pilots for Patients; and 13 WHEREAS, he has been a loving and devoted husband to Sharon Palmer Thomas 14 for almost thirty-nine years, the committed father of one son, Court, and the cherished 15 grandfather of Kyle and Calypso; and 16 WHEREAS, Philip Thomas is a member of AOPA, Air Care Alliance, and Alliance 17 for Aviation Across America; and 18 WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas is certainly not new to volunteering his time and money Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 54 SLS 15RS-431 ORIGINAL 1 to helping others, as demonstrated by his following actions and awards: in 1997, Mr. 2 Thomas and Richard 'Doc' Worthington started Angel Flight in Louisiana, and from 1998 3 through 2005 Mr. Thomas served on the executive board of Angel Flight South Central; 4 from 2008 through 2010, he was on the board of directors of the Houston Ground and Air 5 Angels; in 2009, he received the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Louisiana Angel 6 Award, and the Equitable Profiles in Caring Ambassadors of Caring Award for his 7 outstanding contributions in helping those in need; in 2012, he was the second recipient of 8 the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development - Aviation - Friends of 9 Aviation Award; and in 2014, he was asked to write an article for the Alliance for Aviation 10 Across America and was voted the Delta Style Magazine's Healthcare Hero Volunteer of the 11 Year; and 12 WHEREAS, Philip Thomas has been a Pilots for Patients volunteer pilot since its 13 inaugural flight on January 14, 2008, and has flown and completed two hundred fifty-two 14 missions for Pilots for Patients; and 15 WHEREAS, in describing his love for flying for Pilots for Patients, he says "it's like 16 Lay's potato chips, you can't fly just one"; and 17 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities 18 and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon men like Philip 19 Mark Thomas who lead by example and use their time and own resources to help others in 20 need. 21 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 22 commend and congratulate Philip Mark Thomas on his numerous outstanding 23 accomplishments and for being named one of the top ten 2014 pilot for Pilots for Patients 24 and for being named the 2013 Pilot of the Year for Pilots for Patients. 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Philip 26 Mark Thomas.
