SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 72

COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Yvette Girouard on being named to the 2015 Louisiana
Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend and congratulate Yvette Girouard on being named to the 2015 Louisiana
3 Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class.
4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year
5 collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of
6 sports figures who embody the character, skills, and talents worthy of being named to the
7 hall of fame; and
8 WHEREAS, the 2015 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes famed
9 softball coach Yvette Girouard; and
10 WHEREAS, born on May 15, 1954, in Lafayette, Louisiana, she began her softball
11 coaching career in 1997, first at Lafayette High School in Lafayette, Louisiana, and then in
12 1980 at her alma mater, Comeaux High School; and 
13 WHEREAS, in 1981, she was integral in starting the softball program at the
14 University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where
15 she was head coach from 1981-2000 and posted a stellar record of 759-250 winning record,
16 and under her leadership the team advanced to ten NCAA tournaments, and three Women's
17 College World Series; and
18 WHEREAS, in 2001, Ms. Girouard took over the coaching program at Louisiana

1 State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, where she achieved a 526-171-1
2 winning record, and she led the LSU Lady Tigers to two Women's College World Series,
3 three Southeastern Conference Championships, four Southeastern Conference tournament
4 championships, two Southeastern Conference tournament runner-up finishes, and seven
5 NCAA tournaments; and
6 WHEREAS, she is one of only three coaches to take two teams to the Women's
7 College World Series, and has won many honors, including the National Fastpitch Coaches
8 Association National Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1993; the Southland Conference Coach
9 of the Year in 1984, 1985, and 1986; the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year in 2000;
10 and the Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year in 2001, 2002, and 2006; and 
11 WHEREAS, she has also been named Louisiana Coach of the Year thirteen times
12 during her stellar career; and
13 WHEREAS, Yvette Girouard possesses the character, skills, and leadership talents
14 worthy of being named to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
16 commend and congratulate Yvette Girouard for being named to the 2015 Louisiana Sports
17 Hall of Fame Induction Class.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
19 Yvette Girouard.
