SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 74
BY SENATOR LONG AND REPRESENTATI VE COX 
A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend Otis Washington on being named to the 2015 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame
Induction Class.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year
collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a number of sports
figures who embody the character, skills, and talents worthy of being named to the hall of
fame; and
WHEREAS, the 2015 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes New
Orleans native Otis Washington; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Washington holds a master's degree from Tulane University, but
began his own football career as an undergraduate at Xavier University, where he was an all-
conference guard and an all-conference baseball player; and
WHEREAS, he became the head coach of St. Augustine High School in 1969, and
ended his eleven year career there with a 106-26-1 winning record; and
WHEREAS, he was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Coach of the
Year in 1972; and
WHEREAS, under his leadership, the St. Augustine High School Purple Knights
were a Class 4A championship team for three years, were runner-up at the state
championship in 1971, and won district titles in 1970, 1971, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1978, and
1979; and
WHEREAS, as a testament to his great leadership and ability to cultivate the talent
of his team members, over one hundred and twenty of his former students received college
scholarships; and

WHEREAS, he continued his distinguished career as a defensive line coach at
Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1980, and after a
year at LSU, was named head coach of the Southern University and Agricultural and
Mechanical College Jaguars, where he led the team to numerous victories, including the fifty
to twenty victory over Grambling State University at the 1982 Bayou Classic; and
WHEREAS, the long and stellar career of Otis Washington has earned him a place
among the many greats in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate Otis Washington for being named to the 2015 Louisiana Sports
Hall of Fame Induction Class.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Otis Washington.
