SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 105
BY SENATOR CLAITOR 
CONDOLENCES.  Expresses condolences upon the death of Ray Tangney.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
3 passing of Raymond E. "Ray" Tangney.
4 WHEREAS, it is with great sorrow and deep regret that the members of the Senate
5 of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of Raymond E. "Ray" Tangney, on
6 May 8, 2015, at the age of sixty-six; and
7 WHEREAS, he was a native of Shreveport and resident of Baton Rouge, was retired
8 from the Louisiana State Department of Revenue with forty-one years of dedicated public
9 service and, due to his vast knowledge of state sales tax, was jokingly referred to as "the Tax
10 Historian" who frequently testified before the Louisiana Legislature concerning tax
11 legislation; and 
12 WHEREAS, after his public service Ray worked for Broussard Partners and
13 Associates; and
14 WHEREAS, he was a past board member of the Louisiana Association of Tax
15 Administrators, and a Certified Public Accountant; and
16 WHEREAS, Ray was a Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 9692,
17 a District Deputy for the Louisiana Knights of Columbus, a member of the 4th Degree of the
18 Bishop Ott Assembly, a member of St. Jude Catholic Church where he was a lector and

1 Eucharistic Minister, and a past member of the St. Jude School Advisory Council, and also
2 served on the Diocesan School Board for thirteen years; and
3 WHEREAS, he was a leader, a patient mentor, and a kind gentle man; and
4 WHEREAS, preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Helen Tangney,
5 Ray Tangney is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Mary W. Tangney; a son,
6 Patrick Tangney; and cousins, Glen and Joe Anne Daigre; and
7 WHEREAS, because of his numerous accomplishments in public and private life,
8 Ray Tangney will forever be remembered as a gentleman, leader, and patient mentor and for
9 his integrity, dignity, and the joy he left in the hearts of all who knew him.
10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
11 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Raymond E.
12 "Ray" Tangney and does hereby commend his significant contributions to state government.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his
14 widow, Mary W. Tangney.
