SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 12
BY SENATOR MORRELL 
CRIMINAL JUSTICE.  Extends the Pretrial Service Commission deadline until March 1,
2017.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To continue the Pretrial Service Commission, as created by Senate Resolution 150 of the
3 2014 Regular Session of the Legislature of Louisiana, by providing for a new
4 deadline for the commission to make recommendations for policy and legislative
5 changes.
6 WHEREAS, the Pretrial Service Commission was created by the Senate in 2014 to
7 review the state's pretrial services laws and policies and to make recommendations; and
8 WHEREAS, the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana recognizes that the continued
9 efforts of the Pretrial Service Commission will greatly assist in providing more effective
10 pretrial decision-making; and
11 WHEREAS, the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana recognizes that more time is
12 needed for the Pretrial Service Commission to complete its research and provide
13 recommendations regarding pretrial services laws; and
14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
15 hereby continues the Pretrial Service Commission to review the state's pretrial service laws
16 and policies and to make recommendations for policy and legislative changes on or before
17 March 1, 2017, that will assist in providing more effective pretrial decisionmaking.
18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the

1 chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary B, the chairman of the Senate Committee
2 on Judiciary C, the chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, the chairman of the
3 House Committee on Administration of Criminal Justice, the chief justice of the Louisiana
4 Supreme Court, the Louisiana District Attorney's Association, and the Louisiana Public
5 Defender Board.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
7 following departments and organizations: the Pelican Institute for Public Policy; the Micah
8 Project; the Department of Children and Family Services; the Department of Public Safety
9 Services and Corrections, Correction Services; the Louisiana Sentencing Commission; the
10 Louisiana Sheriffs' Association; Family and Friends of Louisiana's Incarcerated Children;
11 and the office of juvenile justice.
