SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 123

TRANSPORTATION/DEV DEPT. Requests DOTD to convert inside shoulder of I-12
between the I-10/I-12 split and Walker to a travel lane.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to convert the
3 inside shoulder of Interstate 12 between the interchange of Interstate 10 and
4 Interstate 12 in East Baton Rouge Parish and its interchange at Louisiana Highway
5 447 (Exit 15) near Walker, Louisiana, in Livingston Parish, to a travel lane.
6 WHEREAS, motorists on Interstate 12 between Walker, Louisiana, and Baton
7 Rouge, Louisiana, experience heavy traffic and congestion on a daily basis; and
8 WHEREAS, Interstate 12 is a major east-west traffic corridor; and
9 WHEREAS, daily traffic counts on Interstate 12 continue to increase; and
10 WHEREAS, the department should give particular consideration to conversion of the
11 inside shoulder of this portion of Interstate 12 to a travel lane during high peak, weekday
12 commuter hours from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; and
13 WHEREAS, conversion of the inside shoulder of this portion of Interstate 12 to a
14 travel lane would provide additional traffic capacity at minimal costs to relieve traffic
15 congestion.
16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
17 does hereby urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to convert
18 the inside shoulder of Interstate 12 between the interchange of Interstate 10 and Interstate

2 Walker, Louisiana, in Livingston Parish, to a travel lane.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
4 secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.
