2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 127 BY SENATOR LONG A RESOLUTION To commend Joshua Phillips for leading a team of Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College (LSU) students to the country of China for a one-year humanitarian mission to broaden good will and cultural exchange between the United States and China. WHEREAS, Joshua Phillips earned degrees in economics and in political science from LSU in 2015; and WHEREAS, Joshua Phillips made a similar mission to China in the summer of 2014 as a member of a team of LSU students that studied the languages, culture, and customs of the world's most highly populated country; and WHEREAS, Joshua's experiences with the people of China during his initial mission made such an impression on him that he became determined to return to the beautiful and mysterious land as a team leader, showing his team members the elegance and grace of the country and its people; and WHEREAS, he will serve as the team leader for the summer-long Asian mission, but when his team returns home at the conclusion of the trip, Joshua will remain in China and study Chinese culture and the Mandarin language; and WHEREAS, Joshua Phillips' strong sense of faith and his belief in the goodness of people everywhere has brought him to some great truths in life, not a common trait among persons of his age; and WHEREAS, he has learned much through his humanitarian efforts to help others, both at home and faraway places, where he has seen and heard the people speak of and cope with daily challenges; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 127 ENROLLED WHEREAS, Joshua Phillips feels strongly that the Chinese and American people must find ways to better understand each other as two of the world's ranking super powers and work together for better relations among all the people of the world for a more peaceful and prosperous existence; and WHEREAS, Joshua is certain that the mission to China that he is about to undertake will not be his last, and future humanitarian initiatives to Asia and other countries are certain to follow this effort. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend its highest commendations and congratulations to Joshua Phillips for his extraordinary role in bringing together the customs, culture, and people of both China and the United States in hopes of fostering and strengthening the relations of the two peoples.
