Expresses condolences upon the death of Benny Don Milligan. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of 3 Louisiana upon the death of Benny Don Milligan. 4 WHEREAS, it is with great sadness that the citizens and the Senate of the Legislature 5 of Louisiana have learned of the death of Benny D. Milligan on February 16, 2015; and 6 WHEREAS, Benny Don Milligan was born on March 3, 1938, in Vidalia, Louisiana, 7 and after living in Lake Charles, Louisiana, his family returned to Vidalia where he 8 graduated from Vidalia High School in 1956; and 9 WHEREAS, he attended Louisiana Tech University, where he graduated with 10 honors, obtaining a bachelor of art's degree in English education, and later earned a master's 11 degree in English education from Mississippi College; and 12 WHEREAS, after college he returned to Vidalia in 1961, where he joined the U.S. 13 Army reserve, taught math and science at Vidalia Junior High School, and coached football 14 and basketball at elementary and middle school levels in East Baton Rouge and Concordia 15 parish schools, touching the lives of the many students he taught and coached; and 16 WHEREAS, in 1965, he took a job with Science Research Associates, an educational 17 subsidiary of IBM, marketing testing programs and educational materials to Louisiana 18 schools; and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 135 SLS 15RS-1081 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, he first started as a marketing representative, then became a regional 2 manager and then was promoted to area manager, and finally a senior marketing 3 representative, marketing hardware to the Department of Education and Louisiana schools; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, he had a long distinguished and productive career making lifelong 6 friends along the way and retired with thirty years of service to IBM; and 7 WHEREAS, in 1997, he became the educational marketing representative for Excel 8 Software Professionals, a computer hardware and software company; and 9 WHEREAS, in 2000, Benny Milligan joined C.J. Brown Realtors as a full-time 10 realtor retiring from C.J. Brown in December of 2014; and 11 WHEREAS, Benny Milligan was an exemplary and highly-admired citizen of 12 Louisiana who worked tirelessly on a multitude of business, civic, religious, and political 13 causes throughout his life; and 14 WHEREAS, Benny Milligan was a loving and devoted husband to his loving wife 15 of forty-eight years, Katherine Tucker Milligan, and through their union they were blessed 16 with two sons, Barry and Ben, and he was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, 17 son, and relative whose love of family was of the utmost importance in his life; and 18 WHEREAS, upon his death the world lost a unique individual who left an indelible 19 mark upon his community and the lives of all those who knew him; and 20 WHEREAS, the strength of our communities and the overall vitality of American 21 society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of men like Benny D. Milligan who 22 use their considerable talents and resources to benefit our future generations. 23 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 24 does hereby express the sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Benny Don 25 Milligan. 26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to his 27 wife, Katherine Tucker Milligan.
