2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 143 BY SENATOR MURRAY A RESOLUTION To commend Norris Joseph Broussard Sr. on the occasion of celebrating his ninety-fifth birthday. WHEREAS, Norris Joseph Broussard Sr., was born to Adolph and Ozita Boyance' Broussard in Delcambre, Louisiana, on June 18, 1920; and WHEREAS, Norris Joseph Broussard Sr. one of seven children, was a major support to his family as they relocated to New Iberia, Louisiana, to establish a new homestead; and WHEREAS, Norris Joseph Broussard Sr. married Rose (Amie) Mae Malveaux on January 11, 1940, and of that union six children were born, namely, Anita Jeanne, Cleotha Ann (deceased), Terrel Joseph, Margaret "Peggy" Joyce, Norris Jr. and Ignatius Peter; and WHEREAS, he and his wife provided a Catholic school education to all six children, encouraged higher education, although neither he nor his wife had more than a sixth grade education, and instilled in their children the importance of a strict work ethic; and WHEREAS, he is the grandfather of nine, great-grandfather of fourteen, and great-great grandfather of one; and WHEREAS, Norris Joseph Broussard Sr. was employed by Evangeline Packing Company, also known as L.A. Frey and Sons of Lafayette, Louisiana, for a total of forty years until he retired in 1986; and WHEREAS, Mr. Broussard is a resourceful and resilient man who, with his own hands, built a family home while working a full time job as a maintenance worker at Evangeline Packing Company; and WHEREAS, Mr. Broussard is a man of faith and was a dedicated parishioner of St. Paul Apostle's Catholic Church in Lafayette, Louisiana, prior to moving back to New Iberia, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Mr. Broussard is active in the church parish of St. Edward's Catholic Church in New Iberia, Louisiana; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 143 ENROLLED WHEREAS, he lives a life of service to others, many times serving as the maintenance person for the church, the Rectory, and the school; and WHEREAS, Mr. Broussard is very active with the Knights of Peter Claver, a member of St. Paul Council, Number Eleven, for over fifty years, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, one of the original members of the St. Paul's Federal Credit Union, and an usher; and WHEREAS, after his wife of twenty-nine years, Rose Amie Malveaux, passed away in 1969, Norris Joseph Broussard Sr. then married Shirley King and they relocated, along with her two daughters Mona and Sharon (deceased), to New Iberia, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Mr. Broussard and Shirley King were married for thirty years until she passed away in 2007; and WHEREAS, Mr. Broussard, a true citizen of Louisiana, maintains that Delcambre, Lafayette, and New Iberia are all home to him; and WHEREAS, Mr. Broussard always enjoyed dancing, still enjoys a little Zydeco dancing, and demonstrated his skill as he and granddaughter Leah danced at his grandson Jason's wedding reception on June 10, 2010; and WHEREAS, Mr. Broussard has been a role model to his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and the community. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Norris Joseph Broussard Sr. on the celebration of his ninety-fifth birthday as he continues to be a role model to his children and people in the community as a Christian man of morals, strong character and generosity. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Norris Joseph Broussard Sr. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE Page 2 of 2
