SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 144
BY SENATOR THOMPSON 
SENATE.  Designates Wednesday, May 27, 2015, as Girl Scouts of the USA Day at the
Louisiana Senate and commends the organization on its 103rd anniversary.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To designate Wednesday, May 27, 2015, as "Girl Scouts of the USA Day" at the Louisiana
3 Senate and to commend the Girl Scouts of the USA on its one hundred third
4 anniversary.
5 WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA is the world's largest preeminent organization
6 dedicated solely to all girls everywhere, helping build character and gain skills for success
7 in the real world; and
8 WHEREAS, in 2014-2015, the Girl Scouts of Louisiana-Pines to the Gulf Council
9 served almost eight thousand girls in six program levels; and
10 WHEREAS, founded on March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia, by Juliette Gordon
11 Low, Girl Scouts' membership has grown to nearly four million members throughout the
12 United States and around the world; and
13 WHEREAS, through the Girl Scouts of the USA, girls can see the world and their
14 place in it by learning the importance of personal responsibility, the value of goal-setting,
15 the spirit of teamwork, and the thrill of accomplishment; and
16 WHEREAS, throughout its distinguished history, Girl Scouting has welcomed girls
17 and women from every background to join, and has inspired them with courage, confidence,
18 and character to make the world a better place; and

1 WHEREAS, the Girl Scout program is based on leadership development; discovering
2 a strong sense of self and positive values; connecting with others to build healthy
3 relationships and advance diversity in a multi-cultural world; and taking action to meet
4 community needs; and
5 WHEREAS, through the guidance of trained adults, girls between the ages of five
6 and seventeen are offered a variety of opportunities to explore numerous topics, including
7 leadership, math, science, technology, health, fitness, sports, environmental education, the
8 arts, and global awareness; and
9 WHEREAS, the Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest national award in Girl
10 Scouting with national standards; it represents a girl's time, leadership, creativity and effort
11 contributed to making her community better; and
12 WHEREAS, the outstanding young women who have earned the 2015 Girl Scout
13 Gold Award are Taylor Anderson of Leesville, Louisiana; Courteney Kemp of Blanchard,
14 Louisiana; and Alyssa Lloid of Pineville, Louisiana; and
15 WHEREAS, during the past one hundred three years, over fifty-five million
16 American women have participated in Girl Scouting, and this enduring tradition continues
17 to strengthen individual communities and our society as a whole.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
19 does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 27, 2015, as "Girl Scouts of the USA Day" at the
20 Louisiana Senate, and does hereby commend this organization for its many contributions and
21 continued dedication to girls in the USA and around the world, and does hereby welcome
22 the members of the Girl Scouts of the USA as they visit the capitol on this special and
23 memorable occasion.
24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
25 Girl Scouts of the USA and to the Girl Scouts of Louisiana-Pines to the Gulf Council.
