2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 17 BY SENATOR BROOME A RESOLUTION To commend the Volunteer Louisiana Commission for its support of national service and volunteerism in Louisiana. WHEREAS, service to others is a hallmark of the American character, and central to how we meet our challenges; and WHEREAS, for more than twenty years, the Volunteer Louisiana Commission in the office of the lieutenant governor has promoted and encouraged national service and volunteerism as a cost-effective strategy to meet critical community needs; and WHEREAS, Volunteer Louisiana invests in our communities and our citizens by strengthening education, fighting poverty, rebuilding after disasters, providing health services, preserving the environment, and supporting veterans and military families; and WHEREAS, since its inception, Volunteer Louisiana has invested more than 63 million federal dollars which has been matched locally with more than 48 million dollars to deploy 21,626 AmeriCorps members in 54 programs serving 8,640,725 hours to meet community needs; and WHEREAS, forty-seven percent of all Louisiana citizens are now engaged in service to their communities; and WHEREAS, both Volunteer Louisiana and AmeriCorps merit a special measure of commendation for their tradition of service. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Volunteer Louisiana Commission for its legacy of service, does hereby recognize and record for posterity the tremendous pride and honor that the commission brings to the state of Louisiana, and does hereby extend best wishes for years to come.
