SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 171

COMMENDATIONS.  Commends the Louisiana Psychological Association and recognizes
Tuesday, June 2, 2015, as Psychology Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Louisiana Psychological Association and to recognize Tuesday, June 2,
3 2015, as "Psychology Day" at the Louisiana State Capitol.
4 WHEREAS, psychology is a diverse discipline, grounded in science, with numerous
5 applications in everyday life; and
6 WHEREAS, practicing psychologists have the professional training and clinical
7 skills to help people learn to cope more effectively with life issues and mental health
8 problems; and
9 WHEREAS, psychologists advance the creation, communication, evaluation, and
10 application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and to improve the lives of their
11 patients and clients; and
12 WHEREAS, psychologists study normal and abnormal behavior and treat individuals
13 with mental and emotional problems; and
14 WHEREAS, psychologists study and encourage behaviors that build wellness and
15 emotional resilience; and 
16 WHEREAS, practicing psychologists can help with a range of health problems and
17 use an assortment of evidence-based treatments to help people improve their lives; and
18 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Psychological Association, as the state professional

1 association representing psychologists in all practice, research, and academic settings, works
2 to further the development of psychology as a science, as an applied practice, and as a means
3 of promoting human welfare; and
4 WHEREAS, currently, more than seven hundred and fifty licensed psychologists
5 practice in this state to serve the people of Louisiana; and
6 WHEREAS, this month the Louisiana Psychological Association will host its annual
7 convention with an emphasis this year on the support that psychology affords patients and
8 clients of all ages and in all stages of life.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
10 does hereby commend the Louisiana Psychological Association and recognizes Tuesday,
11 June 2, 2015, as "Psychology Day" at the Louisiana State Capitol.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
13 Joseph Tramontana, President of the Louisiana Psychology Association and to
14 Cindy Bishop, Executive Director of the association.
