2015 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 183 BY SENATORS ALARIO, ADLEY, ALLAIN, AMEDEE, APPEL, BROOME, BROWN, BUFFINGTON, CHABERT, CLAITOR, CORTEZ, CROWE, DONAHUE, DORSEY-COLOMB, ERDEY, GALLOT, GUILLORY, HEITMEIER, JOHNS, KOSTELKA, LAFLEUR, LONG, MARTINY, MILLS, MORRELL, MORRISH, MURRAY, NEVERS, PEACOCK, PERRY, PETERSON, RISER, GARY SMITH, JOHN SMITH, TARVER, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, WARD AND WHITE A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate the Louisiana State University Men's Golf Team for winning the 2015 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Championship. WHEREAS, the LSU Men's Golf Team has completed a remarkable and memorable season, posting an overall 135-30-3 mark and capturing the Southeastern Conference Championship and the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Championship under the leadership of Head Coach Chuck Winstead and Assistant Coach Garrett Runion; and WHEREAS, LSU senior All-American Ben Taylor repeated his performance in the national semifinal against Georgia by scoring the deciding point to claim a 1-up victory as the Tigers won its fifth national championship with a 4-1 victory over the USC Trojans; and WHEREAS, All-SEC standouts junior Zach Wright and sophomores Brandon Pierce and Eric Ricard, along with Taylor, were unbeaten at the NCAA Championships, and senior Stewart Jolly, a two time All-SEC selection and All-American made strong contributions, as the Tigers captured their first NCAA Championship in sixty years after also being crowned champions in 1940, 1942, 1947 and 1955; and WHEREAS, junior Zach Wright has lead the Tigers into the final eight at the NCAA Championships in each of the last two seasons with a perfect 5-0 mark; and WHEREAS, the Tigers matched their single-season mark set during the 1959-1960 season with five wins taking home the title from the Golfweek Conference Challenge, David Toms Intercollegiate, and Talis Park Challenge during the 2014-15 campaign; and WHEREAS, the Tigers also won the SEC Championship for the first time in twenty-eight seasons as they turned a three-shot deficit entering the day into a three-shot victory at the 2015 SEC Men's Golf Championship; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 183 ENROLLED WHEREAS, the members and coaches of the LSU Men's Golf Team merit a sincere measure of commendation and congratulations for their exemplary performances and competitive spirit at the highest and most difficult levels of collegiate competition. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana State University Men's Golf Team for winning the 2015 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Championship and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor the team has brought to LSU and to the state of Louisiana.
