Commends Zahir "Bo" Bolourchi upon his retirement after forty- seven years of service with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend Zahir "Bo" Bolourchi upon his retirement, after forty-seven years of service 3 with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. 4 WHEREAS, Zahir "Bo" Bolourchi was born in Saveh, Iran, to Rogie and Davood 5 Bolourchi on February 2, 1940, and was raised on the family orchard; and 6 WHEREAS, Mr. Bolourchi left a small town, south of Tehran, Iran, in 1960, bound 7 for New York, New York, to begin his tertiary education; and 8 WHEREAS, before making a final decision where to attend college, his friends 9 convinced him, on his twentieth birthday, to consider traveling to Lafayette, Louisiana; and 10 WHEREAS, after more than a month of traveling from his hometown, Mr. Bolourchi 11 found himself registering to begin his goal of attending college in the United States; and 12 WHEREAS, in 1963, he received his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering, 13 from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, then named the University of Southwestern 14 Louisiana; and 15 WHEREAS, in 1966, he moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and earned his master 16 in civil engineering from Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical 17 College in 1970; and 18 WHEREAS, Mr. Bolourchi possesses licenses as a professional civil engineer, a Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 185 SLS 15RS-2904 ORIGINAL 1 professional land surveyor, and a professional environmental engineer; and 2 WHEREAS, he is a board member of the Capital Area Groundwater Conservation, 3 the State Ground Water Management Commission, and the Red River Compact 4 Commission's Louisiana Engineering Advisory Board; and 5 WHEREAS, among his numerous achievements and projects, Mr. Bolourchi recently 6 completed oversight of the Poverty Point Reservoir and the Black Bear golf course projects; 7 both projects have been added to the Louisiana state parks listing; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Bolourchi and his wife, Ruth, have made a warm and wonderful 9 home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and they have one daughter, Chanel, who is married to Dr. 10 Curtis Chastain, and they have four children, Katie, Curtis Jr., Ashley, and Julianne; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Bolourchi's much deserved retirement will find him traveling and 12 spending more time surrounded by his family. 13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 14 does hereby commend Zahir "Bo" Bolourchi upon his retirement after forty-seven years of 15 service with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. 16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mr. 17 Zahir "Bo" Bolourchi.
